
Naga College Foundation was one of the Local Hosts of the 3rd South-South Citizenry Based Academy, an International Conference focused on ‘disaster risk reduction’ and ‘climate change’. NCF’s Typhoon Preparedness Center Head and Naga City’s Mr. Typhoon, David Michael V. Padua was one of the Guest Speakers and Lecturers of the said forum; theme of which is “Harmonization of Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction”. The International Conference was a 5 day activity composed of high – end lectures and a study tour at the project site in the Bicol Region. The conference was involved by more than hundreds of participants coming from the different countries in Asia and, of course, the Philippines. The activity aims to encourage sharing of knowledge, practices in disaster risk reduction and Climate Change Adaptation.
Mr. Padua presented the practices of the Typhoon Preparedness Center and its Early Warning Programs contributing to Building Resiliency among communities in the Bicol Region. He highlighted innovations of the center in providing Now Casting services that is used by LGU’s in their disaster preparedness plans.
The whole delegation held its 2nd day afternoon session at the Naga College Foundation Auditorium. Also attending the session was the President of NCF, Ms. Marguerite Michelle V. Padua-Hornby who welcomed the participants during the activity. The Honorable City Mayor of Naga, Atty. John G. Bongat gave a warm message during the activity. Dr. (Capt.) Roland P. Villanueva, Former NCF President; Ms. Marivic V. Balance, NCF Center for Social Responsibility Director and Ms. Joannah B. Ramores, NCF-TPC External Project Development Consultant part participated in the conference.
