Mr. Padua, A 2010 ABS-CBN BPA Regional Winner

Naga College Foundation proudly reveals another feat of one of its own.  Mr. David Michael V. Padua, the known Mr. Typhoon of Naga City, was recently awarded the prestigious Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards.  Mr. Padua has been commended as a Regional Winner together with 1 from Daet, Camarines Norte and another winner from Daraga, Albay.  All three, though already Regional Winners, would still represent Region V as they’ll compete with other finalists for the National Level.  Mr. Padua was formally announced and awarded as a Region Winner last August 26, 2010 at the Ateneo de Manila University Campus.

Mr. Padua is the current Director of the NCF Typhoon Preparedness Center and is also considered an achiever of Naga College Foundation.  He rose to fame during the Typhoon Unding calamity in 2004.  At that time he predicted that the said typhoon would hit Naga City, and indeed it did… the then City Mayor, Hon. Jesse M. Robredo, used his forecast to warn Nagueños of the upcoming typhoon.  This was Mr. Padua’s turning point as he saved a lot of lives then.  This deed made him the Mayoral Awardee of 2005.  From then on, Mr. Padua has been giving early warning signals and forecasts to the Bicolanos.  As director of the NCF Typhoon Preparedness Center, Mr. Padua, holds seminars and trainings to help his ‘kababayans’ in early typhoon and flood disaster management.

The Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Bayaning Pilipino Awards is an annual search for modern-day heroes.  Launched in 1995, it gives recognition to ordinary folks who had done heroic acts and extraordinary deeds.
